NAS Hex Head Bolts are a close tolerance fastener made from 160-180ksi cadmium II plated alloy steel. There are lots of parts numbers for NAS bolts but here are a some of the commonly used ones:

NAS62(a) - (b) Medium thread
NAS66(a) - (b) Long thread

(a) Is the bolt diameter in 1/16ths of an inch
(b) Is the dash number and designates the length of the grip in 1/16ths of an inch.

(This can be handy if you need to replace an AN bolt that only goes up in 8th increments!)

Add a "D" in the proper location to specify a hole in the shank
Add a "H" in the proper location to specify a hole in the head

The Aerospace Industries Association's standard writers made it tricky. It depends on the NAS part number as to where the letter goes. Here are some examples:

NAS6204-16D is a 1/4" diameter medium thread drilled shank bolt with a grip length of 1"
NAS6206-18H is a 3/8" diameter medium thread drilled head bolt with a grip length of 1-1/8"
NAS6603D2 is a 3/16" diameter long thread drilled shank bolt with a grip length of 1/8"
NAS6604H7 is a 1/4" diameter long thread drilled head bolt with a grip length of 7/16"

NOTE: We typically list the NAS11XX-XX series bolts as an alternate for the NAS62XX-XX series and the NAS13XX-XX as an alternate for the NAS66XX-XX series. More information is available in our catalogue. Download HERE!
